Lighting the Lamp of Peace
(Serthika, age 12)

When the lamp is lit
Our country is clearly seen
With the joyful faces
Our footprints are traced in peace.

The miserable life is gone.
And it has its end.
So sings all races
Now the war is gone.

Now is the time for peace talks
Time for normal life.
To get over the dangerous events
Let us light the lamp in order.

The demons of war are dead,
And angels of peace appeared.
The contentment of daily life
Has entered our country.

Politicians in the prisons
Politicians are in power.
Attention is drawn from everywhere
To bring peace for this country.

Whatever is done-if it is peace, it’s good
For with all the good thoughts
We will be able to keep the lamp burning
With rays of peace forever.

Stop the Violence
(Karthika, age 16)

Lord, please answer our prayers.
When shall we get peace in Sri Lanka?
When will the people of all races get together?
When will they stop the bombing, every second and minute?

The dreams of the parents, about their children-
When will that come true?
The children who finish their university education-
Are getting shot.
When will this be stopped?

God, please answer our prayers.

Unity
(Subananthini, age 16)

Oh! The sons of a hero.
Your fame should be heard around the world.

Oh! The sons of tomorrow
Learn to live in peace.

No God…No man…
It’s a truth.
Learn to live in unity
To save the world from enemy.
For tomorrow will be happy.

Sacrifice the pride, to break the arrows of war.
Whatever may be…
Even the mountains can break
But we will go hand in hand to live in unity.

Peace?
(Dinushiya, age 20)

We see the sun rise daily
We say it’s true-
But why to doubt the sun of righteousness
To say it’s not true?

Down on the green
Carpeted field is seen.
The blood shed of innocence
Searching for peace.

Like monkey from branch to branch
Goes the hearts of human beings.
The mother land is shedding tears of blood
To have people like them.

Mother is searching for her baby
And shedding tears…
Where an innocent boy is found…
With a rope around his neck.

Dove is carrying the word of peace on her beak.
It stands away thinking she couldn’t.
All infants of Lanka
Awaiting with anxious eyes
To greet the voice of peace
That echoes around the world.

Grace Home
(Mehalatha, age 13)

Like the light of the lamp
That shines very brightly
We young children are here
Like shining stars.

Small love quarrels among the happiness
Which makes our life a glistening star
In the Grace Home.

Friends among the residents
Whether old or young
Express the unity of our Home.

Courteous and loving to one another
With our friendship
Going ahead to live long
With abundance of blessings.

Will There Be Peace?
(Kovinthini, age 17)

Unchangeable word, “PEACE”
Stands topsy-turvy everywhere.
Finding solution for peace among races…
Where shall we go?

Where is the white dove?
What shall we do?
The un-bloomed white lotus
Says, “What a sin”…
But the Peace that we expected
Is burrowing down her head.

Where to Find you –
Oh! Peace Come Soon
(Pathmapriya, age 17)

In the midst of the grave yard,
In the midst of the dead bodies…
It’s impossible to find you here.

Without realizing the highness of the world,
The blood shed land was made into a plain land.
What have you done in the refugee camp?
It’s nothing but the weeping and crying in the tombs.

Lost the country…
Lost the town…
The houses and the forsaken family,
For how long wander…Oh people!

Down in the pond of miserable environment
Come Oh peace to save,
Before the blind world falls down into a pond.

Oh Peace, come soon.

PEACE
(Yogatharshini, age 14)

War, many came
Many misfortune and miseries.
Even then, so many souls
Are dying to get only Peace.

Peace! When will that be?
Peace of mind, how will that be?
How to live without Peace?
So, the people are awaiting……….

Why to live separately?
Why are we divided into separate races? Religions?

Join hands and try our best to live in Peace.

Grace Care Centre
(By Mrs. Daisy Soundranayagam, Program Director, Grace Girls Home)

Gods blessing to have.
Rays of sunlight
All through the day.
Caring for his children.
Every minute and second.
Children of all races
Abandoned and deserted.
Rejoice in the home under
Everlasting love,
Comforts and combinations.
Easing one another.
Necessity of love and affection
Throughout the life.
Rallying around this
Eden called Grace Care Centre.
