Eye Clinic Conducted at Grace Care Center

On March 19, Dr. K. Hemachandra, the owner and administrator of "Central Hospital & Maternity Ward" in Trincomalee, conducted a free eye exam clinic at the Grace Care Center in conjunction with the Sri Lankan Red Cross. The clinic was arranged with the assistance of Rev. J. Gnanapragasam, the Manager of the Grace Care Center.

During the clinic, Dr. Hemachandra, who is also the current president of the Trincomalee Lion's Club, examined 15 of the Grace Home children, most of the Mercy Home residents and 9 staff members -- all of whom had experienced some problems with their eyes. He identified 13 elders who were in need of cataract surgery and 10 others (residents and staff) in need of glasses.

But the news gets even better.

Dr. Hemachandra and the Sri Lankan Red Cross have arranged no cost cataract surgeries for all of the affected elders, to be performed at a clinic in Kandy, and free spectacles for the residents and staff who tested positive for them.

Our big and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Hemachandra and the Sri Lankan Red Cross for their kindness and generosity to our Grace family! Thank you all so much.

Photos from the clinic are posted to the links below.

New Term Enrollment at Grace Vocational Training Center Tops 100

We are delighted to announce that 104 students have enrolled this term at the Grace Vocational Training Center (VTC), including six Muslim students and sixteen boarder students. This is the highest number of students yet to enter the school.

Through the Grace VTC, VeAhavta is providing needy youth with the education they so desperately need to break the devastating cycle of poverty. Current courses include: computers, sewing, palmyra craft, painting and cookery.

With your help we can do even more. Our goals are to expand the size of the courses and to improve the quality of instruction by purchasing more modern equipment. But we cannot accomplish these goals without the support of our donors. Please help us make a big difference in the lives of students who are trying to improve their lives by donating now to the Grace VTC. Thank you.
